1Expired Questions

What are Expired Domains?

Expired Domains are sometimes also referred to as unclaimed Domain Names or Abandoned Domain Names. These names were once registered and held by other people but have since been released back for re-registration when their renewal fees were not paid. There are thousands of these domain names expiring/deleting every day.

How do I find out when a domain is expiring?

Names that are not renewed by their owners eventually expire and become available for anyone to register. They should therefore be found on any of the online search systems offered by domain name brokers. But there are some Web services that allow us to see .net, .com and .org domains that have only recently (or are very close to) expiry. To recycle a recently expired domain name, look at Whois.net and try entering a domain name within the 'Deleted Domains' facility.

Once I register the name, do I own it forever?

You can register a domain name for as long as 10 years or for 1 year if you like. The decision is yours.

Doesn't Yahoo & DMOZ remove expired domains from their listings?

While it is certainly possible, its not likely. Yahoo is currently under pressure to cut costs and produce a higher profit. They are generally therefore concentrating their efforts on getting more listings for their directory rather than taking them off.
